My opinion
I feel that traction control in MotoGP is something that allows the fans to see all of the racers ride on the absolute limit in order to put on a good show. Some people call it cheating, which is absolutely absurd considering EVERYONE is allowed to use it. The point of traction control is to keep the amount of highsides that occurred in the past down in order to keep the riders safe as well as keep costs down for manufacturers when riders destroy the bike after highsiding.
It does not matter if you have traction control because in all honesty the less you use the traction control system the more likely you are to produce faster lap times. This is because when the traction control system kicks in, power is being reduced and DOES NOT HELP WIN RACES! The rider still needs to have great throttle control and feel of the motorcycle moving around underneath him. There are still many times that we see riders backing it in to the corners and power sliding there way out of it, because they have the traction control settings low which allows them to be there on traction control system. It does not give them an advantage over anyone. All that it does it save their butts from getting seriously injured which i feel is something that we all would want for ourselves and others.
Traction control systems are only a safety precaution. They do not make you faster. Only you as the rider can make yourself faster. There are still plenty of highsides that occur in MotoGP today, so if traction control really makes it that much easier to ride, why are many of the great riders still highsiding?
